HOT POT is an upcoming gaggle of BIPOC baddies (and Aren) residing on unceded Lekwungen lands and bouncing in the space between jazz, reggae, funk, soul, hip hop, and other schools of music with roots in West Africa, the Caribbean, and Turtle Island. Their influences also include genres such as afrobeat, calypso, moombahton and qawwali. They love laying down an original dank groove almost as much as they love talking about themselves in third person.
ONE TWO THREE FOUR HOT POT!!!
No matter the flavour of music, HOT POT brings a dance energy to any space, and is sure to leave you yelling HOT POT at every count of four. As story tellers at heart, HOT POTs original music is collaboratively written and performed in Victoria BC, highlighting the especially unique and often underrepresented BIPOC experience of Victoria. As working musicians, our songs are intended for working people, especially those who are marginalized, and especially in need of a groovy break (pun intended). We hope to strike a chord (pun again intended) with all those voices which are often unheard and resonate with their stories.
HOT POT is composed of:
•Ritomo Amamiya on keys
•Artemis Flores on bass
•Matthieu Lalonde on guitar
•Aren Ludlow on guitar
•Nathan Shelby on drums
•Jessamine Vasquez on vocals
•Zuber Singh on vocals
